Every Step for a Cause: Eight at Gazegill Completes the Lakes Ultra Challenge for MND

At Eight at Gazegill, community has always been at the heart of everything we do. Whether welcoming guests to our tables, supporting local producers, or rallying behind important causes, we believe in making a difference wherever we can.

On Saturday 6th June, that commitment took us far beyond the restaurant as Assistant Restaurant Manager Ramune Vorobjova and General Manager Kimberley Talbot completed the 50km Lakes Ultra Challenge in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

What started as a fundraising challenge became an unforgettable test of endurance, determination and teamwork.

The route wound through some of the Lake District's most breathtaking landscapes, but it was far from an easy day out. Over the course of more than 11 hours, the pair climbed an incredible 1,340 metres in elevation and clocked up over 65,000 steps across rugged trails, steep ascents and challenging terrain.

There were moments when tired legs and sore feet threatened to take over, but the reason behind the challenge was never far from mind.

For Ramune, the cause is deeply personal. Having witnessed first-hand the devastating impact Motor Neurone Disease can have on individuals and their families, she has dedicated herself to raising both awareness and funds for the charity. Her passion has inspired colleagues, guests, friends and local businesses to come together in support of a cause that affects thousands of families across the UK.

The Lakes Ultra Challenge was the latest chapter in a fundraising journey that has captured the hearts of our community.

Following our recent charity dinner at Eight at Gazegill, where guests, suppliers and supporters came together for an evening of fundraising, generosity and remembrance, the challenge offered another opportunity to keep the momentum going.

Crossing the finish line was emotional.

Not simply because the kilometres were behind us, but because of what had been achieved together.

Thanks to the incredible support of our guests, local businesses, suppliers, friends, family and wider community, our fundraising efforts have now raised more than £12,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

That figure represents far more than a number. It represents hope, support, research and a collective determination to help those living with Motor Neurone Disease and their loved ones.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us along the way. To those who attended our fundraising dinner, donated auction and raffle prizes, sponsored our efforts, shared our fundraising page, offered words of encouragement, or simply cheered us on from afar – thank you.

A special thank you must also go to the entire team at Eight at Gazegill. From helping organise fundraising events to covering shifts, offering encouragement and being our biggest cheerleaders throughout the journey, this achievement belongs to all of us.

While the challenge may be complete, our support for the Motor Neurone Disease Association continues.

Together, we have shown what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a cause that matters.

And for every step taken across those 50 kilometres, we were reminded that even the toughest journeys become possible when you never walk alone.
